Teaching Responsibilities
I
have been teaching as an adjunct instructor at FIT since 1997. My primary responsibility lies within the Textile/Surface Design
Department for which I specialize in teaching my area of expertise in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) technology. I was awarded
a Certificate of Continuous Employment (CCE) and achieved the title of Assistant Professor in 2002. Among the
various CAD applications taught include
industry-specific proprietary software such as Lectra’s U4ia, Nedgraphic’s Fashion Studio and Colour Matters,
along with “off-the-shelf” programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator that are adapted for use in the development
of fashion and textile design images.
I currently teach both lower and upper division degree program courses
in Textile/Surface Design, upper division BFA courses for Fabric Styling and have taught introductory CAD classes in
Fashion Design-Art, AAS.
When I first started
at FIT, it was really tough to be in technology. Nothing worked right. The software in which I was requested to teach was
outdated, there was little technical support and many times crawled under the desks to fix computers.....I felt a responsibility
to my students and to the industry we serve to lobby in upgrading the hardware and software to current industry standards.
I appealed to the industry-specific software providers
and was responsible for coordinating over $30 Million worth of software contributions from Industry leaders. I also assisted
in implementation of curriculum upgrades to support the new programs. I am happy
to say, FIT has evolved to provide a state-of the art facility with an IT team that is world-class to service the students
and faculty members. I feel it is my continuing responsibility to partner with IT and industry affiliates in an effort to
maintain the standards of excellence in technology for my area.
